Why connect your accounts
Connecting your bank accounts and credit cards lets Zeni automatically import transactions for categorization, reconciliation, and reporting. The more accounts you connect, the more complete your financial picture will be in the dashboard.
Note: Connecting an account gives Zeni read-only access to transaction data for bookkeeping purposes. It does not give Zeni the ability to move money from external accounts.
Supported institutions
Zeni connects to most major US banks and credit card providers, including Chase, Mercury, Bank of America, Silicon Valley Bank, American Express, and others. If your institution isn’t recognized automatically, you can upload statements manually.
How to connect
- Go to Settings — From the left navigation, click Settings, then select Connected Accounts.
- Click Add Account — Select your institution from the list or search by name.
- Sign in to your bank — You’ll be redirected to your bank’s login page to authorize the connection. Zeni uses Plaid to establish the connection securely.
- Select the accounts to link — Choose which accounts (checking, savings, credit cards) you want Zeni to track.
- Confirm — Once connected, Zeni will begin importing transaction history.
Note: Some banks require you to allowlist or authorize Zeni before the connection can be established. See Allowlisting Zeni below.
Allowlisting Zeni
Some banks block third-party connections by default. If your connection fails or transactions aren’t syncing, you may need to log in to your bank and approve Zeni as an authorized third party. Steps vary by institution — see the Allowlisting/authorizing Zeni article for bank-specific instructions.
Troubleshooting
If your connection breaks or stops syncing:
- Re-authenticate — Your bank may require you to re-enter credentials. Go to Settings → Connected Accounts and click Reconnect.
- Check for bank maintenance windows — Connections can temporarily fail during scheduled bank maintenance.
- Upload statements manually — If a connection can’t be restored, you can upload CSV or PDF statements directly from the Connected Accounts page.
Note: If you’re having persistent connection issues, contact your Zeni finance team via dashboard chat and they can help resolve it.
